Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) today conducted a talk on info-security awareness for nearly three hundred Year 7 students at Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, as part of the school’s Orientation Week program for the new students.
The talk was facilitated by Mohamad Azad Zaki Haji Mohd Tahir of BruCERT. Students were introduced to the Brunei Computer Misuse Act, and briefed on the threats of social networking. The talk also included advice on good password management and what to do in case of cyber-bullying. Members of the BruCERT team later distributed security awareness booklets to the students, to help them learn more about using the Internet safely.
According to a teacher at Maktab Sains, such security awareness talks were important for the young students, as they will be using the Internet for school projects and activities, including receiving classwork by email.
