Four Bruneians will be representing Brunei Darussalam at the upcoming Cyber SEA Game 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand this week. The event is a Capture The Flag (CTF) competition for ASEAN member states, and is organized by the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Cooperation HUB. The winning team of the Cyber SEA Game 2017 will advance to SECCON Japan, a global CTF competition, in February 2018.
CTF competitions in the information security field require technical knowledge, skills and experience as well as teamwork. Participants learn about protecting computers and dealing with cyber-attacks in the real world.
The team representing Brunei were selected from the winners of last year’s Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag 2016, the second cyber security competition in Brunei. Mohd Izdihar Bin Sulaiman, Muhamad Nur Aiman Bin Haji Jahari, Abdul Qayyuum Bin Haji Abdul Kadir, and Abdul Fitri Shah Bin Mohd Ali were members of the 1st and 2nd placed teams in the competition.
Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag is an annual local competition organized by ITPSS Sdn Bhd where teams compete to find and exploit vulnerabilities on designated game servers. The competition serves as an educational exercise in information security and demonstrates the importance of cybersecurity and the need for information security specialists in Brunei Darussalam.
