Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) today organized a Cybersecurity Awareness Roadshow at the Ministry of Finance in the capital. The roadshow was run by Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) and was aimed at AMBD personnel and other agencies in the Ministry of Finance building.
In the morning, BruCERT delivered an awareness talk entitled The Anatomy of Phishing which describes how phishing can easily bring down an organization if an employee clicks a malicious link. They emphasized the importance of security awareness among employees, how to tackle the latest cyber threats, and the consequences of oversharing information. Later, BruCERT also shared a short presentation to create awareness on Money Muling, which is currently a rising concern worldwide, and described warning signs and preventative measures.
A 1-day cybersecurity awareness roadshow was later held in the lobby of the Ministry of Finance. Visitors were enticed with cybersecurity games, activities and live demonstrations of webcam takeover, mobile phishing, and reverse engineering malware on Android devices.
Don’t Get Phished teaches visitors how to identify scam emails that trick people into revealing their personal information. Dumpster Diving game demonstrates the importance of properly disposing unwanted documents such as bills or receipts. The highlight of the roadshow was the Password Challenge contest, in which visitors are challenged to create a strong password. The person whose password takes the longest amount of time to crack would win a prize.
BruCERT is a national referral agency dealing with computer-related and internet-related security incidents in Brunei Darussalam. It engages in public awareness initiatives, highlighting online threats, cyber safety and dispenses advise on securing personal information.
