The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the IT Protective Security Services (ITPSS) Sdn Bhd organised a cybersecurity awareness talk at Awang Semaun Secondary School’s multipurpose hall yesterday.
The talk was to make students aware on cybercrime issues and educate them on how to avoid cybercrime and threats using the latest technologies.
The talk on ‘Stay Safe on Social Networking Sites’ was presented by Ida Frida binti Abu from ITPSS. She began her presentation with background information of her experiences and also about BruCERT. She continued with the discussion on cyber threats where she explained the type of cyber threats such as viruses, spyware and adware. She added the importance of password and teaching students and teachers the criteria of making the password non-vulnerable to hackers. Ida Frida also educated the students on how to manage the password so that it would not be easy to be tracked by others.
She explained about ‘phishing’ where hackers steal information from users for example from online banking. She also told students what criteria to look for to identify whether the website is fake or not. She ended with the explanation on staying safe online and spoke about cyberbullying. She showed videos to illustrate both.
The event ended with the presentation of a souvenir by Awang Semaun Secondary School Deputy Principal (Academic) Hajah Norsinah binti Haji Metusin to Ida Frida and representative from ITPSS Siti Nor Izuana binti Ayob.
