Information Technology Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) in its role as Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) recently collaborated with the Creative Computing Programme Area of Universiti Technology Brunei (UTB) for the third year in a student competition to produce cybersecurity awareness videos. The objectives behind this ongoing collaboration is to create better cybersecurity awareness by involving young Bruneians, foster creativity and give students an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Out of 10 submissions, two winners were chosen based on creativity, quality of video and most importantly the clarity of the message related to cybersecurity and online safety issues. The winning video on ‘Oversharenting’ was produced by Nurul Rina Haryantie binti Abdullah. The video highlights the dangers of oversharenting, a habit whereby parents share too much information about their children on social media. In second place was Mohamad Haziq Wa’ie bin Husaini with his video on ‘Technoference’, a term used to describe a distraction caused by technological devices during any interpersonal communication.
The winners were rewarded with cash prizes and cinema tickets, while their videos will be showcased by BruCERT in local television advertising, cinema advertising and displayed on BruCERT’s social media accounts. Prizes were presented by the Chief Information Officer of ITPSS, Azman Iskandar bin Ariffin, in the presence of the Programme Leader of UTB’s Creative Computing Programme Area, Hj Idham Maswadi bin Hj Mashud and UTB lecturers.
BruCERT is a national referral agency dealing with computer-related and internet-related security in Brunei Darussalam. It engages in public awareness initiatives, highlighting online threats, cyber safety and dispenses advise on securing personal information.
