Annual Cybersecurity Competition Is Back For 3rd Year

The third edition of Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag, an annual cybersecurity competition, is slated to be held in September. The computer hacking competition organized by local IT security firm ITPSS Sdn Bhd is designed to highlight the importance of cyber security and the need for specialists in the field of information security in Brunei Darussalam. It is hoped that the annual competition will serve as an educational exercise which inspires students to explore information security as a profession.

This year, Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag is being supported by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) who will be hosting the final round of the competition as part of its Science and Technology Week. A total prize pool of $7,500 cash is on the line for the top 3 teams.

Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag is a Jeopardy-style cybersecurity ‘capture the flag’ competition. Participants will be presented with challenges based on real IT scenarios. Using their own computers, participants have to solve each challenge in order to obtain a secret key known as a “flag”. The flag is then submitted to a dedicated score server and the team is awarded points for each verified flag. The team with the highest points will win the competition.

Participation is open to anyone residing in Brunei, but they must enter as a team of 2 or 3 members. There is no age limit, and registration is free. The closing date for registration is 28 August. However, the number of teams will be limited, so early registration is essential. Visit the event website www.itpss.com/cyberbattle2017 for more details.
