Brunei Darussalam’s premier computer hacking competition Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag (CTF) will return for its 6th edition next week. The competition is organized annually by a local cybersecurity company ITPSS Sdn Bhd. This year, the event will be held as part of Digital Technology Week at Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) initiated by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

In Cyber Battle, participants are presented with challenges in a variety of real-life scenarios, with the goal of obtaining ‘flags’ within the time limit.

The qualifying round was held online last week, and saw 22 teams competing for coveted spots in the final. Only ten teams will be moving on to the final round on 20th June, where Brunei’s top hackers will face their opponents in person.

The final round of Cyber Battle will be a full day event held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas. In addition to the top three cash prizes of $3500, $2500 and $1500, a Score Bonus of $2500 will be awarded to the first team who can reach a designated score. There will also be Category Bonus prizes for the first team to complete challenges in each category.

To complement the competition, ITPSS will also host a series of free public presentations by local cybersecurity experts and professionals. Dubbed Talks at Cyber Battle, the presentations will also be held at the Press Conference Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC) on Sunday, 20th June. The talks will cover a range of cyber security topics including careers in cyber security, video forensics and the vulnerability of IoT devices.
